"Joy and Responsability" 2013 Normandy seminar with 21st Musô Jikiden Eishin Ryû Sekiguchi Komei sensei and Shimizu Nobuko sensei for Ryoen Ryû naginatajutsu.

Like other years , on Tuesday October 29 I departed for Normandy, via Paris to attend the seminar organized in Cherburg - Octeville , my sempai Makita - Bécot Minori . On this occasion the keiko promised more than ever because the presence of 21 th successor of Musô Jikiden Eishin Ryû iaijutsu , Sekiguchi Komei sensei, and my teacher of naginata , Shimizu Nobuko sensei to teach Ryoen Ryû  naginatajutsu .
As always , I like to arrive early in the morning to Paris to take a turn in such a beautiful city before leaving for Normandy. More later I will go to the airport to wait for Sekiguchi and Shimizu senseis , where I would meet my sempai .

The keiko were developed as follows : In the morning , from 8:30 to 12:30 Sekiguchi sensei ran Musô Jikiden  Eishin Ryu Iaijutsu , and after stopping to eat , Shimizu sensei teach  Ryoen  Ryû naginatajutsu by three hours, taking one day an extra hour for  iaijutsu  with Sekiguchi sensei .
The first day the iaijutsu training was dedicated  to  the Tôhô Gohon with its kata : Mae Giri ( MJER ) , Zengo Giri ( Mugai Ryû ) , Kiriage ( Shintô Munen  Ryû ) , Shiho Giri (Sui Ô Ryû) and Kisaki Gaeshi (Hoki Ryû). Then continue with the kata , which is condensed 9 of the 10 kata of  the second series Tate Hiza no Bu: Hayanuki Chudan .
Shimizu sensei  gave start to the course with some warm-up exercises  to perform before each keiko . After that we started to study the first series kata Shoden no Maki in his part of shidachi ( naginata ) : Minamo , Do Giri sono Ichi and Ni, Shingetsu and Musô  , then incorporate the role of uchidachi ( boken ) for the kumitachi.

The second day of train we made the first series of Musô Jikiden Eishin Ryû Iaijutsu : Seiza no Bu, we pay special attention to the kata : Mae , Migi,  Hidari and Yae Gaki . In extra time we had keiko in the afternoon, so we engaged in the study of the first Oku Iai Iwaza kata  : Kasumi .

In Shimizu sensei's naginata time, we start with basic movements before entering the study of kata. This time we worked the basic kihon comprising two cutting forms  of Naginata : Takane and Tomoe .
Then we will go over the Shoden Kumitachi we saw yesterday : Minamo , Do Giri , Shingetsu and Musô . From here , we move forward in the program of the series, with the kata Sempu ( sono Ichi , Ni, San ) , Musubi Kiri , Naginata Kôju , Naginata Zôri and Fuji San to end with the kata Shiho Giri - Shiho Barai . In the keiko of Ryoen Ryû ,  we not only practice weapons ( naginata , ken , tanto) , there is also a very important part dedicated to Reihô that Shimizu sensei learned from 32 º  sôke Ogasawara Tadamune sensei, of  Ogasawara Ryû Reihô . To end the day , Shimizu sensei was correcting us , which teaches music theory , singing traditional Rôei poem , which is part of the school as a teaching more of these traditions and teachings protocol female , but we are many men who want to learn and practice , among whom I include myself .

The next day, I woke up  particularly horrible with pain and sickness in my stomach that had me indisposed for any action , however put on my workout clothes and decided to try my luck , it was at this point that Sekiguchi sensei demanded a sacrifice and self-improvement that along , with support from my roommates and Shimizu sensei that they gave me medicine , I finally get over the disease, and despite I was whiter than my keikogi (as I told my colleagues ) I finished iaijutsu keiko with full power and strength without raising objections to the hard training of Sekiguchi sensei. Specifically in this Musô Jikiden Eishin Ryû practice, we could work  kata  Hayanami and Raiden  from Bangai Sanbon . This day Sekiguchi sensei was teaching us with something that many should have in mind, making a comparison in which he said that for many James Bond movies we saw we were not going to turn into super spies , warning about the dangers that could lead to " Youtube sensei " , and  if you want to learn what you have to do is go to a qualified teacher and train hard , seriously and continuously . On the latter ended alluding that useless either someone says that 's 30 years coaching budô if it has trained only a few of those years and a few hours a week or month , for that is more worthwhile someone only been training a few years but with high quality of keiko .
The first of the words of the title of this report came from Sekiguchi sensei , who after keiko asked us to sit down in both parallel lines in seiza , and that was to make delivery of a certified school officials , among them, the appointment of Philiphe Laks ( Paris iaijutsu Shibuchô ) as  Sekiguchi Kenosuke and George Darocha ( chotoujutsu Shibuchô of Paris ) as Sekiguchi Teshin , something that had already been made public in the last seminar held during the summer in Spain (Benissa ), but now became official with the delivery of the certificates . What I did not expect is that sensei were to call me too, and it was: In front of everyone I handed over a certificate where my commitment to the school is close  giving me his surname and putting  the name of Sekiguchi Kenryū (Sword and dragon ) a great name, a surname even bigger and a great responsibility , because now more than ever , with my workout and my actions I represent the 21st  Musô Jikiden Eishin Ryu iaijutsu Sekiguchi Komei , like a father concerned.

In the train of Ryoen Ryû nagianatajutsu  we focus on the kata Shoden Kumitachi : Do Giri , Sempu ( sono Ni) and Fuji San . After that we focus on the kata of Ryû no Maki : Kogarashi , for  performed solo waza, where the role of uchidachi is replaced for a kaso no teki.
Kogarashi is the first kata  where we work  tantojutsu in school, so Shimizu sensei wanted  dedicate some time to work on this  which is so important in our school as an ideal complement to the naginata . In this context , we work forms of the same kata Kogarashi and tantojutsu teachings contained in the kata of the third series : Naginata Hōzuki and Futae no Nagiri.
This day , I took the honor of practicing kumitachi directly with Shimizu sensei practicing the kata Sempu sono Ni and Fuji San ( Shoden Kumitachi ) and Nishiki Goromo and Naginata Hôzuki ( Tora no Maki ) . It's really amazing  the maai control and speed that has Shimizu sensei's naginata  despite her 71 years , at each kaeshimen she catch me, so she  give me strength to beat and level up .

Penultimate day of keiko and started studying again with iaijutsu Tôhô  Gohon series, to continue with Jinrai  which is how we failed to train yesterday to complete the series of Bangai Sanbon . After this we immersed ourselves in the third series Oku Iai tachiwaza , practicing the first three forms : Yukizure , Tsuredachi and Sô Makuri .

In Ryoen Ryû naginatajutsu we  started training with Shoden Kumitachi : Musô , Sempu ( sono Ni) , ending with Tora no Maki ( kumitachi ) : Naginata Hōzuki . Following the work of both uchidachi ( tachi ) and shidachi ( naginata ) we will focus only on the latter , with the Ryû no  Maki series : Hatsunagi , Namitsumi, Ryuen and Kogarashi . Keiko Finally we returned to the first Series Shoden , to perform the work of the penultimate kata  (shidachi) Zashô  . This day Shimizu sensei lectured us with knowledge of  budô, about  important traditional learning: yotsu no narai 四つ の 習い the "4 lessons " , the 4 things that are necessary to learn well budô .
- Ryugi refers to the chosen school tradition , lineage or Ryuso andthe structure of the ryu .
- Shi , respect the teacher or sensei , the person will teach .
- Ba, workout place , dojo , sensei's house , the place to learn.
- Aite , students and partners, because it is so important for a teacher to have students and a student to have companions .

The last day we started iaijutsu train in the practice or quick review for the whole series of Oku Iai , both Iwaza as Tachiwaza ,also studying some of the techniques in the context of chotoujutsu .
From here we will focus on keiko kumitachi , which in the case of Musô Jikiden Eishin Ryû , we had not yet trained in this seminar. Specifically , Sekiguchi sensei chose the second series of kumitachi of Eishin Ryu : Tsume Iai , working the kata : Hasso, Kobushidori  and Yae Gaki both its share of shidachi as uchidachi . With the latter form we researched on ways henka waza kata relative to another series but the tachiwaza section : Ganseki Otoshi . This day we were talking about my upcoming trip to Japan this Christmas , as well as the possibilities of train  both iai  and naginata. Then sensei spoke as follows joy and great responsibility, official confirmation of Sekiguchi and Shimizu sensei of participating in the Hounou Shinnensai Oshogatsu Enbukai to be performing on January 1 at 9 am at the Yasukuni Jinja . I will participate and I'm listed in the program with my name Ryoen Ryûko in Ryoen Ryû school, where I will have the honor of performing several solo kata  with steel naginata  and kumitachi kata performing the role of uchidachi with Shimizu sensei  as shidachi . Also will perform the enbu with montsuki  allowed  from Shimizu sensei, authorizing me to carry the  kamon governing our school. After naginata Hounou Enbukai, among other koryu that participate in the event, I'll be  listed in the official program of Musô Jikiden Eishin Ryû under my name recently awarded: Sekiguchi Kenryū , performing kata sensei order and carrying me turn the montsuki with the kamon of Sekiguchi sensei , who has authorized me to take . The Yasukuni Shrine is one of the most important in Japan and Tokyo for reasons of religious and political nature , and this date is extremely important to the Shintô rite in Japan , as it goes to the temple to pray for the new year . So I will have the honor to pray in the temple with my sensei , and then make a demo dedicated to the Kami , what greater joy is there and more responsibility ?

The last of Ryoen Ryû keiko naginatajutsu began with the practice of Ryû no Maki kata , Hatsunagi , then  we moved to  kumitachi with Shoden kata : Musubi Kiri and Tora no Maki : Nishiki Goromo . Both forms could practice in the papers and uchidachi shidachi , highlighting the interesting part of kokyu of the first and the difficult part of trhowing the  goromo in the second . To end the practice of shidachi ( naginata ) of : Futae no  Nagiri from Tora no Maki . During this last Sunday afternoon, the practitioners were leaving the seminary to return home. At the we only are the Normandy group  with Minori sempai , Etienne , Pierre and myself. Shimizu sensei  pushed me to  practice the solo waza and kumitachi waza that I required to perform in the Yasukuni Jija Enbukai.

The last day we dined with the sensei , which I was able to keep asking about Japanese culture and intricacies of the school, since the practice never ends the dojo , also taking a meal is still learning from the sensei . At this point I want to thank Minori Makita-Bécot sempai ( Sekiguchi Seisui / Ryoen Rinka ) perfect organization of the seminar , as well as her two students  Etienne and Pierre that showed great efficiency in all logistical work of the seminar . Bravo , Normandy team .

After saying goodbye to everyone, the next day we left Paris to go to the airport where the sensei and I had to catch a plane to travel to our respective countries. On the way we stopped in the beautiful Bayeux , who had always dreamed of visiting since I studied in University. Apart from its beautiful city and its marvelous gothic cathedral , stands the fabulous and incomparable Bayeux Tapestry with more than 60 meters is a unique work of art history that tells the conquest of England by the Norman William " The Conqueror" . In this I want to thank again Christian , husband of Minori sempai , for his kindness.

Already at the airport and said goodbye  Sekiguchi and Shimizu senseis , with regret but with joy because soon I will see them again and nothing less than in Japan , joy and responsibility, to make it up the name and reputation of the school and to fulfill all the expectations that teachers have put both in me...now just train !
